Born, raised, and based in Austin, Texas, Eric Michael Smith is a seasoned songwriter, bandleader, deeply rooted in the city’s rich musical tradition. A longtime presence in Austin’s songwriter circles, he has built a reputation for crafting songs that blend classic country storytelling with the grit and energy of Southern rock ’n’ roll.
Equally comfortable at center stage or holding down the low end, Eric is also a bass player within the Texas Country scene. He has performed with a wide range of artists, including Bandolier, Bobby Earl Smith, and Pops & The Spirit Uncles, bringing a steady groove and musical versatility to every project he joins.
Before stepping fully into his role as a frontman, Eric gained invaluable experience behind the scenes as Tour Manager. His time on the road helped shape his professional discipline and gave him a deep understanding of the inner workings of touring life—insight that continues to inform his approach as a bandleader today.
In 2024, Eric founded the country outfit Smith & Reeves, assembling a group of standout musicians from Austin. As the band evolved and began showcasing more of his original material, the project transitioned into a solo-led venture under his name. Backed by a dynamic and seasoned group of players, Eric Michael Smith has quickly become known for delivering high-energy, danceable live shows that feel equally at home in honky-tonks, dance halls, listening rooms, and music events.
His forthcoming full-length album (2026) features an all-original lineup and a collection of songs that breathe new life into classic Southern rock influences while staying firmly grounded in modern Texas songwriting.
Eric performs weekly with his band every Wednesday at The Little Longhorn Saloon in Austin. He also appears monthly with Bobby Earl Smith (2nd Sundays at The Little Longhorn Saloon) and with Pops & The Spirit Uncles (4th Tuesdays at Evangeline Cafe in South Austin).
